𝑻𝑯𝑬 “𝑻𝑯𝑨𝑰 𝑮𝑼𝒀” 𝑪𝑼𝑹𝑹𝒀 𝑫𝑰𝑷

Our new sandwich special is inspired by the Northern Thai Curry Noodle Soup - “Khao Soi”... with Thai-style grilled & braised chicken and a slaw of red cabbage, bean sprout, jalapeño and cilantro; with “nam phrik pao” dressing, pickled mustard green, lime-cured red onion, thai basil aioli and crispy egg noodle on a @grandcentralbakery hoagie. Served with a side of curry dipping broth. (Also available as a rice bowl)

The classic dish is a creamy, deeply fragrant and deliciously rich curry that originated among southeast Asian immigrant communities known as the “Chin Haw” (Chinese Muslims from Yunnan that migrated to Northern Thailand and Burma between the 18th and early 20th centuries). Famously immortalized on @pokpokpdx menus in the twenty-tens (RIP). Ours is just a tribute, but damn is it good. We hope you love it.✌️

Grateful for your continued support... The end of Autumn is the beginning of our slow season here at the drive-in. It’s a time when we are sustained by our neighborhood business; by local families, our regulars, and the guests that go out of their way to come and see us in unfavorable weather.

When we first opened, a lot of people said we wouldn’t be able to make it through the winters out here in the Gorge; and it can definitely feel like that sometimes. All that to say that your continued support and trust means the world to us. Please keep us in mind as Winter weather approaches. We’d love to see you soon at the drive-in. 💛

Paying respect to the Japanese institution of Yakitori (skewered and charcoal-grilled chicken) with our new sandwich special, available today and for the next couple weeks... another one from Chef Ryan Hawkins @dustest...

With soy-glazed chicken & pork meatballs, ramen egg and Japanese curry gribiche, yamitsuki slaw of cabbage and mustard greens, carrot, roasted sesame dressing, water chestnut and pickled plum; all on a toasted hoagie. (Additionally available as a delicious gluten free rice bowl).

Pacific Northwesterners, you’ll find big chicken teriyaki vibes in this one - with a subtle nod to the iconic Taste Tickler Sub Shop in Northeast Portland (IYKYK). Something a bit different from your classic tomato-based meatball sub...

“Tsukune” are Japanese chicken meatballs traditionally grilled and glazed with tare (a sweetened, fortified reduction of soy) and served with more tare and a raw egg yolk dipping sauce (see slides 3 & 4 for the inspiration). Our tare is flavored with dashi, black garlic and tamari. Ume vinegar-pickled plums add contrasting pops of bright shiso-flavored pickle to this savory melange. Come try it today! 𝗪𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗙𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝟭𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬𝗧𝗛 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗘𝗦𝗘 𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗪𝗜𝗖𝗛 earlier this year... It’s the first sandwich we put on the menu over 6 years ago (before tik tok had ya’ll waffling everything), and we think we’re gettin pretty darn good at ‘em.

Our first attempts were not so good (check out our first tries in the last couple slides). Turns out you gotta have the right bread, the perfect blend & ratio of cheeses, the right waffle iron (not too heavy & sized right for the bread), copious amounts of melted butter, and real good timing to get golden brown nooks and crannies with melty pockets of stretchy @tillamook cheese.

These sandwiches are great for stretching and pulling, sure… but remember these sandwiches were made for dipping too, so add that cup of our Classic Tomato Soup (plant-based) to your order. OG Willamette Valley winemaker John Paul Cameron (𝗮𝗸𝗮 “𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀”) achieves grandmage status with this chillable fireside red, a marvelous mid-Autumn wine made from late harvest pinot gris fermented on skins for 1 month in amphora and aged in neutral oak barrels for 2 years.

There’s some sorcery at work here… in the glass, this wine has a dark cherry hue akin to light-pressed Pinot noir and earthy, red and blue-fruited aromas. The palate is clean with light tannins and notes of cherry, citrus zest, sarsaparilla, cola and a touch of straw; its subtle umami pairs magically with our seasonal pumpkin and mushroom dishes. It’s also a time that can be very challenging for a lot of independent, family-run restaurants. For small restaurants, food trucks and outdoor restaurants like us, these can be some of the slowest weeks of the year... it’s a tough transition.

Beef tri-tip is our favorite meat to smoke by far; and we created our signature barbecue spice “Northwest Wonder Rub” with tri-tip in mind.

Something for the forest bathers, the gnome folk, and the mycophiles... a love letter to Oregon’s wild Autumn bounty and adventures in the rainy season. Our new “𝑶𝑹𝑬𝑮𝑶𝑵 𝑻𝑹𝑨𝑰𝑳” 𝑺𝑼𝑵𝑫𝑨𝑬 is a Fall forest fantasy...

With a swirl of dark chocolate and toasted hazelnut soft serve topped with coconut “nutella” pudding, mini mushroom meringues, pistachio “moss” spongecake and a trail mix of nuts, seeds, cacao nibs and dried Summer fruits.
