OLD SCHOOL, NEW AMERICAN DRIVE-IN

Nestled along the banks of the Sandy River, Sugarpine Drive-In is a heartfelt homage to the golden age of American roadside dining. Established in 2018 by Emily Cafazzo and Ryan Domingo, Sugarpine occupies a lovingly restored 1920’s gas station within Glenn Otto Park, just 20 minutes east of Portland in Troutdale, Oregon – the gateway to the Columbia River Gorge.

Our mission is to modernize the classic drive-in experience, blending nostalgic comfort foods with Pacific Northwest flair. Drawing from our diverse culinary backgrounds and family traditions, we craft creative menus that celebrate local ingredients and global flavors. From smoked meat sandwiches and vibrant veggie bowls, to over-the-top soft serve sundaes, each dish is a tribute to the region’s rich agricultural heritage and the seasonal bounty of Oregon.

We take pride in sourcing our ingredients from small family farms in the West Gorge and Willamette Valley, ensuring that our offerings are fresh, sustainable, and support our local community. Our meats are procured from sustainable ranchers in the Pacific Northwest; and our fish are hook & line caught in the coastal waters and rivers of Oregon and Washington. Our beverage selection showcases a rotating array of Gorge-centric craft beers, ciders, and non-alcoholic options, highlighting the diverse flavors of our region.

Our location, steeped in history and natural beauty, offers a serene setting for families, adventurers, and food enthusiasts to gather and savor the moment. Whether you’re stopping by after a hike in the Gorge or seeking a leisurely riverside meal, Sugarpine invites you to experience the warmth and nostalgia of our new American drive-in.

    "SONY

A Roadside Retreat on the Edge of the Wild

1208 E Historic Columbia River Hwy, Troutdale, OR 97060

We are located inside Glen Otto Park, a Troutdale Community Park nestled along the Sandy River, just 20 minutes east of downtown Portland and 15 minutes from Portland International Airport. Troutdale is known as “the Gateway to the Gorge”, Oregon’s most treasured national scenic area, renowned for its beautiful vistas, natural wonders, cascading waterfalls, and America’s first scenic highway – the Historic Columbia River Highway.

The Perfect Summer Day on the Sandy

For the ultimate summer day in the Gorge, start with a float down the Sandy River-by innertube, kayak, or paddle board-along the 3 mile stretch from Dabney State Recreation Area to Glenn Otto Park. Drift through winding currents, sun-dappled trees, and the cool, clear water that defines Oregon’s wild beauty. Just steps from the riverbank at the end of your journey, you’ll find Sugarpine Drive-In waiting with soft serve cones, stacked sandwiches, crisp salads, and cold drinks. It’s the perfect finish to a float, and a true taste of summer in Oregon.

    "DSC_0073
    "Sandy
    "sugarpine

ONCE A STOP FOR FUEL, NOW A STOP FOR FLAVOR

The building that now houses Sugarpine Drive-In has been a fixture on the banks of the Sandy River since the 1920s. Originally built as a gas station along the Historic Columbia River Highway, it served the earliest generations of road-trippers heading into the Columbia River Gorge in search of nature, adventure, and the open road. Over the decades, it lived many lives-from a fish and tackle shop to a riverside concessions stand-always welcoming travelers and locals drawn to the river’s edge.

When we opened Sugarpine in 2018, we embraced that rich legacy, breathing new life into the space while honoring its roots. Today, the scent of barbecue and soft serve fills the air where gas pumps once stood, and the same spirit of roadside hospitality lives on in every meal we serve.

    "Staten
    "Troutdale
